When a course requires online proctored exams, there might be an occurrence where a student is unable to travel to their proctor, but the instructor desires to offer that student the opportunity to take the exam in a secure environment using Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB). While the new test exceptions feature does well to allow for time limit variations, it doesn’t incorporate LDB. To allow LDB use for just one student, a copy of the existing exam must be created and Respondus LockDown Browser enabled on that version. There is no other way to enforce the requirement for one student without also impacting the others, as the setting to require Respondus LockDown Browser is made at the exam level. The basic workflow for this process follows:
- Access the Tests, Surveys, and Pools area (Control Panel > Course Tools > Tests, Surveys, and Pools), to locate the test.
- Access the Action menu of the test and select Copy. After the copy is made, this copy will need to be deployed for use.
NOTE: The copied test will contain a (1) after the name, if desired the name can be edited to be more descriptive.
- Access the content area that the test will be deployed to and add the assessment. If needed, refer to the separate Blackboard: Adding Test to Content Area tutorial:
- Once the test is deployed, access Control Panel > Course Tools > Respondus LockDown Browser.
- Enable Respondus LockDown Browser for the copied test. Refer to the Respondus LockDown Browser tutorial for additional information.
NOTE: To avoid confusion (among the other students), it may be useful to configure an adaptive release rule limiting access (and visibility) to the copied exam to the individual student only by way of a membership rule. Refer to the Adaptive Release tutorial for additional information.
